Seeds of IMBOLC
Welcome to my corner of the web! My name is Katherine Granger, but you can call me Kat.
I am a lifelong student and observer of nature, with a deep passion for gardening and horticulture. I became a Master Gardener & long-time member of the local horticultural society; my journey with plants has evolved over decades.
My adventure began when I became a mother and started growing my own good food. This led me to nurturing seeds, doing my part to protect and share them.
Over the decades, I have offered many different services and numerous creative outlets in my entrepreneurial life.
I used to hold a huge plant sale each spring, growing hundreds of heirloom tomatoes, peppers & perennials to create awareness of these precious heirlooms and to save them. However, the preparation and resources needed to do this made it impossible for me as a one-woman show to get on with my own garden.
For decades I have run an electrolysis business. I have had a small landscaping business, ‘Garden Guru’ helping others have beautiful spaces. I have cooked and baked, raised kids, welcomed grandkids, preserved, cleaned and at one point long ago was an accountant at a government job.
A long and winding road led me to where I am today.
One thing about aging is that we do have to slow down, distil what is important. Time is a gift & wisdom guides us how to best spend it.
I have decided to focus on the flowers which bring such joy, peace, and fulfillment to me now. That focus brings the satisfaction of increased skill in my floral art.
While I still offer a smaller selection of seeds, (dahlias & mums etc) my focus at this moment in time is on the flower world.
My floral designs are natural and abundant, reflecting the splendor and diversity of the plant world. I believe the love I pour into my flowers is felt by the recipient in the joy they provide.
Floral Designs
My floral designs are a true reflection of my love for nature. Each arrangement crafted with care, using a variety of flowers that showcase the beauty and diversity of the plant world. Naturally abundant designs evoke joy, wonder & peacefulness to those who receive them.
Whether it’s a simple bouquet or an elaborate arrangement, my goal is to share the intense, timeless, while ever-changing, beauty of flowers with others.
I grow everything organically, using no chemicals or pesticides. Life springs from every nook & cranny. Everything I offer is grown right here, with love, not imported, repackaged, or resold.
Truly a “field-to-vase-florist”.
This ensures that my flowers and seeds are of the highest quality and are nurtured with care from start to finish.
I have always had a deep connection with the natural world. Throughout my life, I have raised and ‘trained’ countless horses and dogs. (Its more building a rapport and building a relationship)
As an astute observer of nature, I am continually drawn deeper into Mother Natures intricacies.
This profound connection with nature is reflected in my work and the joy it brings to others.
Embracing Technology
The world of technology has changed inconceivably in my lifetime, and I am doing my best to keep up. I have had to learn social media and do my best to share what I’m up to and what I’m offering, along with tips and wisdom, through my social media channels.
It truly helps if you respond to my social media posts so that they actually get shown to people, and I appreciate that.
Leaving reviews on Google and the website are also much appreciated.
Thank you for visiting, and I hope to inspire you with the beauty and wonder of nature through my work.
Leading by example we can have the biggest impact to protect and restore the environment. By instituting best practices to reduce our impact on the environment, and by educating as many as possible, (ending all the misinformation out there!) we are influencing many other businesses, and the world as a whole.
Interesting Imbolc Lore
IMBOLC is an ancient festival (February 2nd) to CELEBRATE THE SEED and Nature as they considered it to be unconditionally sacred, an expression or manifestation of deity and divinity. Druids do not worship nature; they give reverence to deity that is expressed within nature.
It is the time of Blessing of the seeds and consecration of agricultural tools. It is the festival of the Maiden, for from this day to March 21st, it is her season to prepare for growth and renewal. Brighid’s snake emerges from the womb of the Earth Mother to test the weather, (the origin of Ground Hog Day), and in many places the first Crocus flowers began to spring forth from the frozen earth.
Another traditional symbol of Imbolc is the plough. Pieces of cheese and bread are left by the plough and in the newly turned furrows as offerings to the nature spirits. It is considered taboo to cut or pic plants during this time.
We can attempt to try to understand this power, this energy that we feel and see all around us, or we can simply accept that it is beyond our full comprehension whilst acknowledging its power over our lives, that it is deity, that it is sacred.
To a Druid, the term ‘supernatural’ has no meaning; nothing can be above Nature. Another view would be that the universe had no beginning, it is a continuing, ever changing wonder that we can’t hope to fully comprehend.
Within our society it has become normal to think of nature as something linked to the countryside, or that which might be observed outside of ourselves other than that which is beyond the physical. Perhaps we can learn from their knowledge. Food for thought
