These sweet, red and tangy tomatoes are medium-sized, perfect for slicing on a sandwich! It was developed in the Ukraine in the 1960s. The product of Soviet-era, intensive plant breeding, Cosmonaut Volkov stands out among the many Russian heirloom tomatoes available today. The flavor is superb and it is very productive. Named after a famous Russian cosmonaut who was killed upon reentry in his Soyuz capsule.
This tomato is classified as an indeterminate variety, but reaches only 5′ in height and is quite manageable, so I would say semi-indeterminate.
The fruits are a vibrant red, slightly oblate and 3″-6″ in diameter, approx. 12 – 15 oz average size. Fairly uniform and resists cracking. Originally from Ukraine; produces high yields even in cool conditions. The flavor can be described as very rich, with the right balance of sweet and acid. Excellent for fresh-eating and processing.72 days Indeterminate
