Description

Side shoots are smaller, great for bouquets, pinch for smaller blooms.Excellent for fresh or dried use. A productive summer/early autumn filler. Greens and seeds are edible.Annual,  40 to 45″,  full sun, days to maturity: 65 – 75 days, spacing: 12″, pinch: when 12″ tall, vase life: 7-10 days

Start seed indoors 4 – 6 weeks before last frost; transplant out after all danger of frost has passed. irect-seeded into the garden once all danger of frost has passed and will self seed here.
Flower heads appear in late summer, leaves can be used as a cooked green. “In India stems are eaten; leaves boiled in water and mixed with salt and chili powder.” An anti-famine plant.

Plant outside on surface, lightly press into soil.  Width 24-36” (90 cm), 5′, (152 cm) Full sun  Average to rich, well drained soil. Approximate days to flower from seed: 70-90 days

The genus name Amaranthus is derived from amarantos, a Greek word that means unfading. This is referring to the long life of the flowers.
