Poppy ‘Red Feathers’

Description

Papaver laciniatum, annual, edges of blooms feathered like pom-poms of brightly coloured crêpe paper.
Sown in early spring, flowers appear in early July, 60 – 90cm (24 – 36″) with broad lettuce-like leaves. Annual, will self-seed. Well-drained, fertile soil in full sun, or large containers. Very sensitive root systems do not transplant well. Best results – simply sprinkle outdoors where they are to grow late fall or very early spring.
Best sown very, very thinly. Soil Blockers are highly recommended in starting indoors. Less root disturbance. Thin to 30cm (12″) apart by early summer. Excellent drainage is a must.

Cut flowers last just 2-3 days. Harvest when ½ open and sear the bottom end in boiling water for 7-10 seconds. Seed pods used fresh or dried.
