Calendula is incredibly versatile with boundless culinary, healing, pest repelling and ornamental properties. Fast growing – blooming from seeds in just 2 months. Often called English marigolds, loved by beneficial insects, petals can be used as fabric dye, edible, used medicinally as salves! Foliage is sticky, so wear gloves when harvesting.
Calendula may be direct-sown as soon as the ground can be worked in the spring, succession plant every 2-3 weeks to stagger harvest OR raise indoors 4-6 weeks before last frost as transplants. Hardy Annual. Summer to fall-flowering. Will self seed here in Zone 5.
