Description
Setaria italica – Foxtail-type millet.
Vibrant lime colour is enough to make this variety a keeper! Excellent fresh and dried cut flowers. Ornamental, but of course also edible… the nutritious grain is good for both humans and birds.
A corn-like plant that has green foliage and a draping head. Fantastically uniform in height, bloom size and bloom time. The stand is lush and self-supporting, remaining upright. Ht. 36–60″.
Makes a beautiful textured addition to cut flower arrangements. Newly emerged seed heads are lime-green, turning brown as they mature.
Sunflowers and Lime Light Millet have similar seed to bloom timing (60-70 days) which makes them perfect garden mates.
Full Sun, Ht. 36-60″ . Direct seed (recommended): Sow seeds 1/8″ deep after the last frost. Cover seeds lightly. Transplant: Sow 4-6 weeks before last frost date. Can be planted in individual containers and then planted out. Small seedlings can be separated and transplanted directly.
Do not cover seed, 5-10 days to germinate.
Harvest heads whenever useful – when fully mature for best colour, when fully developed, making the cut at the base of the stem to encourage regrowth.
approx 50 seeds
