Description

Callistephus chinensis aka Lady Coral Lavender

Each plant is smothered in at least a dozen stems topped with ruffled blooms with slightly incurved petals.

Start seed indoors in trays 6-8 weeks before last frost; transplant out after all danger of frost has passed. Don’t bury seeds too deeply; lightly cover with soil or vermiculite.

Harvest when the outer petals on the flowers begin to open. Immediately after harvest, strip foliage off the lower half of the stem and place into water. With flower food, expect a vase life of up to 2 weeks

annual,  24-28”, full sun, Days to maturity: 110-120 days, Plant spacing: 9-12”, Pinch: not necessary. A bit later to bloom than our other China asters. Ht. 24–30″

    Moonstone aster, oh my! What a beauty. Tower Chamois Apricot was also stunning. All seeds germinated and the plants bloomed beautifully in summer 2023.

The Blue-podded Capucijner (cap-ou-SIGH-nah) is a hardy pea first grown by the Franciscan Capuchin monks. Its particularly beautiful, bi-colored flowers are lilac/pink and wine-red/purple, fading to blue as they wilt; pods are deep inky purple/blue. It is best used to make delicious, full-bodied soups; also an edible-podded sugar pea.  Great long term storage food. Soaring, vining plants are smothered in the most striking dark purple pea pods. A rich eggplant color, these shelling peas are as delicious as they are beautiful; pick early for best flavor.
