Ideal for cutting and pollinator gardens. produces an abundance of tall, delicate sapphire-smothered stems – incredible in large numbers for pollinator gardens & mixed into arrangements.
Hardy biennial grown as an annual; prefers well-drained soil high in organic matter; average fertility; good drought tolerance; reseeds; prefers cool temperatures. Originally a wildflower from Southwest China
Sow 3-4 up to 8 weeks before last frost. Transplant out after last frost. Cover seeds lightly with soil as darkness is required for germination so cover and place in a dark room until they sprout. Direct seed – Sow as soon as soil can be worked.
Pinch: when 8” tall. These lovely true blues will reseed. Once seed heads form they are sticky & burr-like.
Harvest blooms when 1/2 the florets are open, in the coolest part of the day to prevent wilting, placing directly into water to rest a few hours before arranging. Vase life of 5-6 days if flower preservative is used.
USES: Cut flower, garden beds, and beneficial insect plantings.
Sun/Part Shade, Height: 18-24″, Spacing 9-12″, Days To Maturity 75 – 85 Days
Annual.
